Hans Silvester was born in 1938 and discovered Provence in the early 60s when he came down from his hometown Lörrach in the southern Germany to photograph the Camargue horses that helped make him famous. He is world-renowned for his long-term work with the tribes of southern Ethiopia - the Omo peoples - testifying to their ancestral customs just before civilization catches up with them. Among his favorite subjects are ecology, the defense of the planet, photographs of animals and simple everyday objects. Hans Silvester, former Rapho reporter, is today one of the last great independent photographers.įrom the cover of the first Geo to two advertising campaigns for Hermes, Hans is appreciated for his ability to merge among his subjects.
